Rep. Kathy Chase Announces Opening of Wells Warming Center at WOCAM

AUGUSTA – State Rep. Kathy Chase has announced that the Wells warming center will open January 3 as a refuge for local residents who find it difficult to pay their heating bills. The Wells-Ogunquit Center at Moody (WOCAM) will welcome all those who need to save on their home heating costs.

The center, located at 300 Post Road, in Wells, will open its doors an extra day to the public for nine Saturdays in January and February from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The program, which runs through February 28, is intended to enable people to turn down their thermostats for the day.

The center will serve a light lunch on those Saturdays. There is no charge, as the program has been funded in part by a grant from Bank of America. Local restaurants have agreed to donate lunches. More than 50 volunteers, including several members of the Ogunquit Rotary Club, have agreed to help out.

"It has been a team effort from concept, to funding, to implementation," said Rep. Chase, a Wells Republican who was reelected in November to her second term in the Legislature. "People have offered to work and local organizations have enthusiastically supported the project. It’s terrific to see the community coming together for each other."

The Wells-Ogunquit Center at Moody opened in 2004 as a gathering place for senior citizens from Wells and Ogunquit. The center has more than 700 members and offers numerous programs, trips and lunches. For more information, call 207-646-7775
